Uber Surge Prices in Montreal

A few weeks ago, the taxis in Montreal decided to protest harder the presence of UberX. They did crazy things and even egged a car in front of a hotel! Ever since, it’s almost impossible to get an UberX at a regular rate. I live in a central location in Montreal and I can’t even remember the last time I was able to pay the price without getting hit by a surge. 

I decided to use the Uber API to follow the surge trend and identify the times during the day when I can benefit of a cheap can ride. 

I check the surge status every minute and save it to a database. When I need a cab, I created a simple page that tells me if it’s on surge.  If it is, I can set an automated check for the next X amount of minutes.
